TRINIDAD and TOBAGO

Saint John Paul II was a pilgrim to Trinidad and Tobago in 1985, during his 25th apostolic journey.

JPII: "Permit me to say a few words to the youth of Trinidad and Tobago. When I think of you and of all the other young people round the world, I feel a deep sense of gratitude and hope. I see in your eyes the bright promise of tomorrow, for the future of society belongs to you. And you begin to shape that future now, by the choices you make, by the attitudes you form, by the values you choose to live by - or to ignore. As you step forward to assume responsibility, let your hearts be brave. Put your confidence in God who made you and who loves you. Dare to reach out to others in hope and in trust, and, joining hands and hearts in friendship, help to build a better world."

"I just think that Christ was so wonderful, that even at his most vulnerable during the time of his greatest pain, he was still thinking of us and giving us a mother. When I'm in my darkest moments, I just come and be at Mary's feet and I know that she went through all this pain too and if you want empathy, she's the fountain of empathy. It's a privilege to know that we have not only a father, we have also a mother who was purely human but she was also perfect, so she's I guess the absolute role model for us."

Fiona

"For me Our Lady is hope and mystery and mother."

Gemma

"To me, Mary is a very strong mother. I can’t do without her."

Glenda

"Mary led me to her son Jesus. I know she comforts me when I am a little down, she’s always at my side, she's always with me. If I don't follow the light which is her Son, she always brings me back to the light. She is a mother who I will always turn to when I have any questions and, well, she answers me because I know she answers me through my heart. She's all for me. I cannot do without her. And I love her very, very, very much. She is a true mother."

Hilary

"Mary: Mother dearest, my refuge, my all, my protector. I don’t know I just call on her for every need that I have; my intercessor because I firmly believe that her Son has promised anything she asks of him will not be denied so I call on her all the time to intercede for me and my family and friends and whoever else is in need."

Johnny

"Our Lady, what she means to me is the Matriarch of humanity."

Marie

"Mary is my blessed Mother. I call on her every day, every minute of every day when something happens to me, when I’m grateful, when I’m thankful."

Marina

"I have seen Mary working in my life, throughout. Any time I can pray the rosary and I know that she is there looking after me and guiding me. And this year I had the great privilege of getting married on the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary which was a real blessing and we had such a great time and it was such a privilege to know that she was there, praying for us."

Sister Monica

"As a Montfort sister, our devotion is to Jesus through Mary.  As a Christian, it's Jesus Christ we believe in, the Eucharist, that is our belief, that is our faith. And while we struggle on earth we need help and there's nobody greater for me than the Mother of God."

Nadia

"To me the Eucharist is the source of all that is good about our faith. It's the actual presence of Jesus. It's what distinguishes my faith from other Christian faiths, where I have Jesus in this most powerful way - ministering to me, loving me, being there for me, being in conversation with me, almost sometimes even a physical experience of closeness to him, and even healing, complete and utter healing where I can open up my heart to him about anything. Things that I hide maybe from other people or from the world, I can't hide from Jesus and He just sort of gets into that place deep within my heart, deep within my being, and He restores and He revives and He consoles and He loves me; I feel his tremendous presence, his tremendous love."

Nerissa

"Mary, she’s my mother, she reminds me of my mother. I feel love and peace when I think of her."

Totus tuus ego sum et omnia mea tua sunt.
Accipio te in mea omnia. Praebe mihi cor tuum, Maria. - St Louis de Montfort

St John Paul II took his motto Totus Tuus from this quote.

"I am totally yours and all that I have is yours.
I accept you for my all. O Mary, give me your heart.”
