St John Paul II's 3rd Apostolic Visit to France

4th - 7th October 1986

Pape St Jean Paul II was a pilgrim to France for the third time in 1986 on his 31st apostolic journey, during which he beatified Father Antony Chevier, visiting Lyon, Paray le Monial, Ars & Annecy.

His itinerary included:
Feast of St Francis, 4th October: Arrival at Satolas Airport in Lyon, Appeal to the world, To the civil authorities of Lyon, Ecumenical Meeting, At the end of the Marian Prayer , Message to prisoners, Mass and beatification of Fr Antony Chevier, Meeting with the religious men of Fourvière, At the conclusion of the meeting with the religious men
Sunday 5th October: Meeting with the young people at Gerland Stadium, Meeting in St John's Cathedral in Lyon, Mass in Paray le Monial, Angelus, Blessing of Lyon in Notredame de Fourvière, Letter to the Superior General of the Society of Jesus, Visit to the monastery of the Visitation in Paray le Monial
Monday 6th October: At the spiritual retreat of priests, deacons & seminarians in Ars, Mass in Ars, Greeting to the people of Ars, To the Pastoral Council of Lyon, Meeting with the Pastoral Council & Meeting with the Bishops
Feast of the Holy Rosary, 7th October - Meeting with Religious Men and Women in Annecy, Mass in Annecy, Meeting with the Hebrew Community of Lyon, At the Prado Institute at the Guillotière, To the Academic Body of the Catholic University of Lyon, Greeting to the University of Lyon & Farewell ceremony in Lyon.
